I have a patch for some time which eliminates pvh_global_lock. I believe Isilon even has it. I was told indirectly that somebody has some concerns WRT the change, but I never heard anything explicit.

I put my change as D5747.

Update to latest version.

Needs a hack to initialize the shared rw spinlock early to actually boot:

This was cute, but D5747 is the way forward. :-)
